inkcanada - canadian screenwriters & their sketchy friends - is an ad hoc social network of independent and commercial professionals, their students, colleagues & fans from film, television, digital, animation, documentary, radio, journalism, literature, poetry, performance and the fine arts.
inkcanada began as a lock-and-key website by 16 independent Canadian feature film writers in early 2000. The entirely volunteer, zero-funding project was intended to foster and inform a greater sense of creative community and citizenship among Canadian talent, and the initiative went public as a Facebook Group in 2007. inkcanada’s Twitter account launched in 2009. Both are highly active exchange points for Canadian writers today.
inkcanada’s Tumblr (launched 01/2012), the FBGroup and the Twitter account are randomly curated by writer-producer, Karen Walton (Ginger Snaps, Orphan Black, Flashpoint IV, The Listener III, QAF USA II, The Many Trials of One Jane Doe, Straight Up). Born & raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia - teens & twenties in Edmonton, Alberta - Karen has lived & worked in Toronto and sometimes Montreal since 1994. inkcanada is named after Karen’s company, inkling entertainment inc. - which absorbs any expenses inkcanada incurs. Some of these expenses include tequila.
